Separation of Enantiomers of (S)- and (R)-2-Methylbutanoic Acid Methylester using Chiral GC Column

Abstract

|
The 2-methylbutanoic acid methylester is known to be a major flavor of apple or strawberry. Among the two enantiomers of 2-methylbutanoic acid methylester, only (S)-methylbutanoic acid methylester has a flavor characteristic. Enantiomers of (S)-2-and (R)2-methylbutanoic acid methylester were separated using the chiral capillary column by gas chromatography. This method is simpler and more rapid than other reported methods.
